Young Douds Farmer Is Survived by Wife, Parents, 2 Sisters, 2 Brothers; Funeral Sunday

Grief over the death of an uncle is thought by relatives to have caused the suicide of Elwood H. Harryman, whose body was found in a cistern near the barn at his farm home south of Douds about 10 o'clock Friday morning. Coroner Harold Catcott said no inquest would be held.

Mr. Harryman, who was 23 years old, was born and reared in the Douds vicinity.

Surviving are his wife, the former Louise Craig; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Harryman of Douds; two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were conducted at the Leando church at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon by the Rev. C.H. Orf of Keosauqua and the Rev. E.K. Parrott of Douds. Music was by a trio, Mrs. Mabel Daniels, Rosemary Greenfield and Robert Greenfield, accompanied by Mrs. Lizzie Pollock.

Uncles served as bearers. Burial was at Leando cemetery.

Young Douds Farmer Drowns In Cistern

Douds.-Elwood H. Harryman, 23, committed suicide Friday and his body was found in a cistern near the barn at his farm home south of Douds about 10 a.m. Friday, according to Coroner Harold Catcott.

His wife discovered his clothes lying beside the well and called help to find and removed the body.

Mr. Harryman was born and reared in this vicinity and is survived by his wife, Louise; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Harryman; two sisters and two brothers.

He had worried about the illness and death of his uncle, Joe Harryman, who died in the Ottumwa hospital Thursday. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Leando church with the Rev. C.H. Orf of Keosauqua in charge assisted by the Rev. E.K. Parrott. Burial will be in the Leando cemetery.

Coroner Cattcott said the death was evidently a suicide and no inquest was held.
