Mrs. Caroline Nutt, 103, Dies At Home Near Selma

DOUDS. - Mrs. Caroline Nutt, 103 years old, died at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the home of her son, Edward, two miles southeast of Selma. She was Van Buren county's oldest resident and had been an invalid since fracturing a hip in 1936.

The daughter of Frederick and Mary Brendal, she was born November 24, 1843, in Morgan county, Ind., the third child in a family of 12, all of whom preceded her in death.

The family moved to Kansas in 1856 and located near the present site of Emporia, where she was married November 28, 1858, to Owen Nutt, who later served in the Civil war and preceded her death.

She had lived in Van Buren county since 1859 except for another year spent in Kansas.

She was the mother of four children, Mariah, Thomas and Austin, who preceded her in death and Edward, with whom she made her home since 1905.

She has three grandchildren, Thomas O. Nutt of Douds, Lillie B. Steiner of Chicago and Verda Greene of Douds, and five great grandchildren.

The body is at the Pedrick funeral home. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Mt. Moriah church of which she was a member for many years. The Rev. W.B. Roudybush of Douds will be in charge. Burial will be in the Mt. Moriah cemetery.
