BIGGS FUNEAL SUNDAY AT MT. MORIAH CHURCH
**Handwritten: 1949

Funeral services for Mrs. Ida May Biggs were held Sunday, Sept. 25, at Mt. Moriah church, with interment in the cemetery there. The Rev. E.A. Piper was in charge. Music was by the Douds male quartet, accompanied by Mrs. Lizzie Pollock. Grandsons were pall bearers.

Ida May daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth Crawford, was born in Hancock County, Ohio, Sept. 28, 1857.

In early youth she became a member of the United Presbyterian church near Finely, Ohio. She was united in marriage to Andrew Llewellyn Biggs, March 25, 1875. To this union were born nine children, six of whom preceded her in death. Lillie, Mina, Minnie, Ira, Harry, and Sam.

Surviving are Mrs. B.C. Lawson of Douds, Mrs. Hovey Hootman of Birmingham, and Howard J. Biggs of Libertyville; and a nephew, Howard J. Routson, who lost his mother in infancy and was reared in the home of his aunt and uncle. There also survive 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

They came to Iowa in 1877 and resided in Jefferson and Van Buren county all their lives, with the exception of seven years spent in Nebraska. They returned to Iowa with their family in the covered wagon during pioneer days, and established their home northeast of Douds where they resided until the husband's death in 1931. Since that time Mrs. Biggs has made her home with her three surviving children.

Her understanding nature, her kindness, hospitality, and generosity, brought to her a host of friends, who, with her relatives will always remember the joy she brought to all though her cheerful nature.

Her illness was of short duration, for she suffered a stroke about two weeks before her death. She passed away Sept. 23, 1949, at the home of her son, Howard J. Biggs, two miles south of Libertyville.
