GEORGE W. GILBERT RITES HELD AT DOUDS

DOUDS-Funeral services for George Washington Gilbert, 83, were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Leando church. The Rev. Robert G. Farr had charge of the services.

Special music was by Ray Finney, Mrs. Mabel Finney, Forrest Hanshaw, and Mrs. Grace Morrison, with Mrs. Lizzie Pollock as pianist.

Interment was in the Leando cemetery. Pallbearers were Andrew Gilbert, S.A. Barker, Dale Holcomb, Berdott Grubbs, Theodore Gilbert and Hilliary Thomas.

The son of David and Deborah Gilbert, he was born June 27, 1865, at Selma. His marriage to Eva R. Streng took place October 29, 1887. He was a member of the Methodist church in Leando, where he had lived for 18 years. A resident of this vicinity all his life, Mr. Gilbert was a salesman and district representative of the Singer Sewing Machine Co., for 45 years.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Weltha P. Gilbert of Ottumwa and Mrs. Retta Garlock of Brashear, Mo.; two sons, Warren S. Gilbert of Ottumwa and Vern E. Gilbert of Oskaloosa; one brother, Charles Gilbert of Ottumwa; one sister, Mrs. Della Stubbs of Hillsboro, Ore.; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were three brothers, three sisters and one infant son.
