OBITUARY

McGREW WAS EARLY COOPERATIVE LEADER

George Edwin McGrew, son of Finley L. McGrew and Sarah Emily (Brewer) McGrew, was born on a farm near Douds, Iowa May 26, 1871, and died September 24, 1951 at the Van Buren county Memorial hospital at Keosauqua, aged 80 years three months, and 28 days.

He received his early education in the public schools of Van Buren county. This was supplemented by a course in a Fairfield Business college.

On January 22, 1925 he was united in marriage to Mary Hardin at Keosauqua, where he established a home, and where he continued to reside until the time of his death.

His life was devoted to agriculture and kindred activities. He was especially interested in the dairy industry.

He was active in the organization of the Cooperative Creamery association at Keosauqua, and was its first president, serving the association in this capacity for 13 years.

In late years he has been interested in the production of a fine line of Collie dogs, which afforder him much pleasure.

He was a member of the Methodist church at Keosauqua.

Besides his widow he leaves two brothers, Harry McGrew of Mt. Pleasant, and Dr. W.R. McGrew of Omaha, Neb., and three sisters, Helen M. Barton of Winfield, Nellie C. Donoho of Everett, Wash., and Bertha M. Whitham of Fairfield.

His parents and one brother, James, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Burton C. Bastuscheck, at the Keosauqua Methodist church Thursday afternoon, Sept. 27. Burial was in the Fairfield cemetery.
