Winfield Scott of Croton died March 12 in Sacred Heart hospital in Ft. Madison where he had been a patient for five days. He was born at Vernon in Van Buren county the son of Hiram and Matilda Scott. He was a retired sawyer and his age was 88 years, 5 months and 15 days.

Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his first wife, two children, Jess Scott of Alhambra, Calif. and Mrs. Alice Huffman of Ft. Madison, one brother, Frank Scott of Bentonsport, and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held March 14 at the late home in Croton with Elder Paul Whitlow of Burlington officiating. Burial was in Croton cemetery.

Those from a distance attending the services were Mrs. *arion Overturff of Newton. Paul Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Beggs of Ottumwa and Mrs. Audrey Palmer of Davenport. [NOTE: * the letter is unreadable.]
