HOWARD L. RATCLIFF

Howard L. Ratcliff, 78, a resident of Birmingham, Iowa, for the last 10 years and formerly a life long resident of the Douds community, passed away Tuesday at 12:30 p.m.

He and his wife had driven over to Douds from Birmingham a short time before and he was sitting in his car with Mrs. Ratcliff when he suffered a severe heart attack.

Dr. Cummings was called but he passed away in a few minutes.

He was married to Ella Rail Sept. 25, 1893. In 1914 he united with Mt. Moriah Methodist church.

He was for many years engaged in operating coal mines near Douds and for several years was with Doud Quarries, Inc.

He has for many years been active in the Knights of Pythias and I.O.O.F. fraternal orders.

He has been connected with the Farmers and Traders Bank for many years and was a director of this bank at the time of his passing.

He is survived by his wife, Ella, and one brother, R.A. Ratcliff of Douds, and three sisters, Mrs. A.G. Rail of Birmingham, Mrs. Frank Wiley of Douds and Mrs. Theo Fellows of Douds, and many nieces and nephews.
