Milton-Mr. and Mrs. F.R. Glasgow of Milton received word last Wednesday evening that their son, Pfc. Ralph Norman Glasgow, was killed in action in Korea, September 22.(Handwritten: 1951)
Private Glasgow entered the army March 14, 1951 and received his initial processing at Ft. Riley, Kansas and from there was transferred to the Hawaiian 20th Infantry training battalion at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, being a member of the first group ever to take basic training overseas. He was then transferred to Ft. Drake, Japan and then to Korea, where he served with Company C, 15 Regiment of the Third Division.
Details of his death are not known to his parents, their only information being contained in a telegram which said:
"The secertary(sp)of the army has asked me to express his deep regret that your son, Pfc. Glasgow, Ralph N. was killed in Korea, 22, September, 51. Confirming letter follows. Wm. E. Bergin".
On Tuesday his parents had received a leter from Ralph written on September 21 the day previous to his death. Co-incidentally his death came on his brother, Clifford's birthday and the date on which another brother, Thomas had returned home from a year's service as army reservist.
Ralph was born at Keokuk, June 5, 1932. He attended grade school at Selma and Milton and was graduated from Milton with the class of 1950.
He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Tom of Milton and Clifford of Des Moines, both of whom served in the army during the second world war, two sisters, Mrs. Vera Van Zante of Ottumwa and Mrs. Carol Richards of Des Moines, and a grandparent, George Glasgow of Fairfield.
