John Taylor, 78, Dies at Kilbourne

Funeral Held Tuesday; Survived by 3 Brothers, 2 Sisters, Nephews and Nieces

John P. Taylor, a lifelong resident of Kilbourne, died at his home Saturday after being critically ill only a few days. Mr. Taylor was 78 years old.

Mr. Taylor was born in August, 1861, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Taylor. He followed the occupation of his father as a carpenter and many of the residences and barns in the Kilbourne vicinity were built by him.

He and Susan Z. Umphrey were married at Kilbourne in December, 1895. Mrs. Taylor died in 1918.

Surviving are three brothers, William S. Taylor of West Des Moines, Charles Taylor of Fort Dodge and George W. Taylor of Killbourne(sp); two sisters, Mrs. C.W. Gilbert of Kilbourne and Mrs. Maggie W. Sherod of Keosauqua, and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were conducted at the Kilbourne Methodist church at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. Jay Waterman of Birmingham. Floyd Williams and Glenn Williams sang, with Mrs. Florence Heiden as accompanist.

Burial was at the Kilbourne cemetery. The bearers were John Taylor, Lawrence Taylor, Roy Ramsey, Sam Gilbert, Earl Murphy and Carl Stutsman.
