Gay Donnelly

Gay P. Donnelly, 75, 426 W. Wilson, Ottumwa, died Wednesday, Mar. 6 at 8:15 p.m. at St. Joseph hospital. He had been in failing health several years.

Mr. Donnelly had been a railway mail clerk for the P.O. Dept. from 1910 until he retired in 1956.

He was married to Birdie M. McCarty, July 28, 1909 in Ottumwa. She survives, as do three sons, Kermit P., Dwight M. and Gay J., of Ottumwa; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Van Donnelly of Ottumwa, and one sister, Miss Annabel Donnelly of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by four brothers.

Gay is a former Bonaparte boy, the family formerly lived north of Bonaparte on the farm where Hawbakers live across from the orchard. He was a brother of Bert a former Bonaparte business man and uncle of Kenneth Donnelly, who followed in the steps of his uncle, a railroad mail clerk before being appointed an inspector.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Saturday at the Johnson Funeral Chapel, Ottumwa. Burial was in Shaul cemetery.
