Gilbert E. Mercer

BIRMINGHAM - Gilbert E. Mercer, 78, died Tuesday at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City, where he had been a patient a month.

Born Nov. 9, 1886, at Kilbourn he was the son of Robert and Mahala Gilbert Mercer.

Survivors include a brother, John of Helena, Mont.; eight nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

A veteran of World War I, he was depot agent at Kilbourn a number of years. He later farmed in that community.

The service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Burch Funeral Home with the Rev. Ora Reep officiating. Burial will be in Kilbourn Cemetery.
