Tragic death of Rex Robison
the following is an account of the death of Rex Robison, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Robison of Orange Blossom, Cal., which occurred on Sunday, June 19, 1927. He was a nephew of Mrs. L.E. Hootman, Mrs. L.R. Rail and J.T. Robison:
Tragedy marked the ending of a picnic party Sunday when Rex Robison, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Robison of Orange Blossom, died from heart failure as he was fishing from from(err) a boat in the Sacramento river near Elkhorn. The young man, who laced less than a month of 25 years of age, was alone in the boat, while the rest of the party, consisting of his fiancée, Miss Grace Wright, her sister, Nellie, and their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Wright, were on the bank a short distance away, waiting for Rex to bring the boat to shore, as they planned to leave for home in a short time. Suddenly the watchers saw Rex stand up in the boat, then fall over into the water. Without hesitating the two girls waded into the water, which was about three feet deep, and in a few minutes had carried the body to the shore, where efforts were made to resusitate(sp) the young man, in the belief that he had fallen from the boat and drowned. Their efforts were unavailing, however, and a Physician's examination brought the conclusion that heart failure was the cause of death, and he had died before striking the water.
Rex was one of the most popular young men of the community, a hard worker, and of the highest character. The news of his death came as a shock to the many friends whom he had gained in life, practically all of which had been spent in his section.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Oakdale undertaking parlors. Rev. H.J. Catterall officiating. Besides his parents, the young man leaves two sisters, Madge of Oakdale, and Mrs. Soward of Gilroy; and two brothers, Wilbur of Oakdale, and Fay of Modesto. Interment was in Citizen's cemetery.
We part with you Rex,
As God thought best,
We loved you so much,
Who will join you next,
We can but wait and wonder.
Your home on this side was full of love and gladness,
It is different now, shrouded with sadness.
