Obituary of Mrs. Fred SkewesMrs. Rose Katherine Skewes, 48, wife of the Rev. Fred Skewes, pastor of Grace Methodist church, died at Burlington hospital Snuday(err) morning, August 24th. She has been in failing health for two years and had been a patient at the hospital for six weeks.
Mrs. Skewes was born in England, may 1, 1882. She came to the United States 24 years ago and was married to the Rev. Skewes, Dec. 8, 1866, in Baltie(?), Mich. Three sons and a daughter were born to them. They are Fred, Kenneth Leonard and Dore??, all of them home.
Since her marriage to the Rev. Skewes, Mrs. Skewes has assisted him in serving charges at Eagle Lake, Minn., for two years; Elysian, Minn., for four years; Mankato, Minn., for four years; Birmingham, Iowa, for three years; Agency, Ia., for one year and Burlington for one year.
She came to Burlington September 15, 1929 and has lived at the parsonage, 524 South Tenth street, since that time. Although her strength was limited because of ill health, Mrs. Skewes was unusually active in the work of her home. She was a member of Rebecca Lodge at Agency and of the Eastern Star at Elmore, Minnesota.
Funeral services were held at the First Methodist church at 9:00 o'clock, Wednesday morning in charge of Dr. A.E. Bentzinger, District Superintendent of the Methodist church, assisted by Rev. O.J. Keesey of Mt. Pleasant, and Dr. J.F. Boye, pastor of the First Methodist church. Rev. Keesey served in the same Minnesota conference with the Rev. Skewes for many years. He read the oration of Mrs. Skewes life at the service. The members of the local ministerial union attended the service in a body. Interment was in the Agency cemetery at Agency.
