Lloyd Syfert, 51, a native of the Mt. Zion community near Keosauqua and a former Keosauquan businessman, died Sunday afternoon in a Kansas City hospital. He had suffered a heart ailment for several years but had been seriously ill only a few days.
He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Syfert. He attended the Keosauqua high school and married Wilda Jemison of Mt. Sterling. They farmed the home place after their marriage, and purchased the Goodie Garden cafe in Keosauqua which they successfully operated for several years. Several years ago they moved to Kansas City where he was associated with an oil company.
Mr. Syfert is survived by his wife; his mother, Mrs. Winifred Lazenby Syfert of Keosauqua, and one sister, Mrs. Charles Cook of Medford, Oregon.
Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kansas City. The body was brought to the Burnett-Catcott funeral home in Keosauqua Tuesday night and services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church with the Rev. Burton C. Bastuscheck officiating. Burial was in Fellows cemetery south of Keosauqua.
