Stroke Fatal To Fred Smith, 74
KEOSAUQUA, Ia.-Fred Eugene smith, 74, farmer, of near Kilbourne, died at 4 a.m. Sunday in the Van Buren County Memorial hospital. He suffered a stroke Saturday and never regained consciousness.
Smith was born Feb. 22, 1880, at Hastings, Neb., the son of Ellis and Marjorie Carson Smith. He had made his home in Van Buren county for the past 48 years.
He is survived by two brothers, Justin, Riverside, Calif.; Norvan of Altadena; six sisters, Eva Smith, who lived with her brother, Aletha Smith, Des Moines; Mrs. Myrtle Askew, Erie, Colo.; Mrs. Margaret Stintson and Mrs. Katherine Boyer, Douds, and Mrs. Etta Hissem, Salem.
Smith was a member of the Kilbourne Methodist church. The body is at the Burnett-Catcott Funeral home in Keosauqua.
Services will be held at the Kilbourne church with the Rev. Glen Lochhead in charge. Burial will be in the Mt. Moriah cemetery.
