Andrew L. Biggs
Andrew Llewellyn Biggs, son of Captain Samuel M. and Ma?? Biggs, was born in Sewickly township, Westmoreland county, Pa. Nov. 20, 1853, and departed this life Nov. 11, 1931. His life's ??? having been 77 years, 11 months and 21 days.
He came to Ohio in early youth and was united in marriage to ??? ? Crawford, March 25, 1875. To this union were born nine children, five preceding him in death. He leaves to mourn his death, one sister, Ada I. Biggs, Findlay, Ohio, his wife and four children: Ms. Biggs Lawson and Mrs. Hovey Hootman of Douds; Samuel Biggs of Grantsburr, Wis.; Howard J. Biggs of near Fairfield, Iowa; twenty-three grandchildren, ?? great grandchildren and many friends and neighbors, who knew him and enjoyed his companionship through the forty-five years which he has lived in the community of Douds.
He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, a kind neighbor and friend. His generosity and hospitality will be held in the memory of all who knew him. During his illness of almost ten years his friends and neighbors showed their appreciation of his generosity by sending him things to help make his life as cheerful and as enjoyable as one show was confined to his home could be, and which was greatly appreciated by him.
During the last few months of his illness he recalled to memory and mentioned many times the hours he had spent in conversation with his friends and of his desire to be able to come back among them to linger with them a little longer, but he was only spared nine days until he peacefully slept away.
The funeral service was held in Mt. Moriah church on the 11th, interment in the cemetery near by.
Music was furnished by the David Male quartet who sang, "In the ?? Beautiful Land." The David Quartet along with Mrs. O. Finney, Mrs. R. Fellows, Mrs. Pearl Webster and Mrs. Earnest Greenfield sang, "Going Down the Valley," "Safe in the Arms of Jesus."
The pallbearers were: F. Long, Chester Evans, Jay Countryman, Oscar Mathias, Walter Hootman and David Laughlin.
