MARY J. SHELLMAN DONALD

Mary Jane Shellman Donald, daughter of Miles Shellman and Mary Matilda Chezum Shellman, was born near Glasgow, in Jefferson county, Iowa, on July 17, 1875, and departed this life on Dec. 6, 1952, at the age of 77 years. She was the eldest of eight children.

In December 1892 she was united in marriage to Ed Jacobs who died ten months late. In 1906 she was united in marriage to Ray Donald. To this union were born six grandchildren: Mrs. Ruth Kramer, Mrs. Marjorie Bailey, both of Mt. Pleasant, James of Bonaparte, John of Burlington, Mrs. Clara Kiger of Fairfield and Dan of Stockport. Surviving besides her husband and six children are a step-son, Glen, of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters, Mrs. Nina Dow, Mrs. Bernice Hiawtt, both of Keosauqua and Mrs. Mae Johnson of Stockport; 22 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Jess Shellman and George Shellman, two sisters, Myrtle Bails and Elizabeth Douglas and a step-son, Floyd, preceded her in death.

She taught school for several years in Stockport and the surrounding communities. On Feb. 24, 1894, at the age 19 years, she confessed her faith in Christ and was buried with Him in baptism. She was a charter member of the Stockport Christian church.

Her life was one of unselfish devotion to her family and friends and was beloved by all.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m. in the Stockport Christian church with the rev. Elmer Fritz officiating. Burial was in the Smith cemetery near Birmingham.
