Mr. Seth Fordyce, an old settler and highly respected citizen of Union township, was found laying in the door yard insensible from paralysis of the brain on Tuesday evening of last week, and died Wednesday morning, and was buried from the Bethany church on Friday. He was born March 6, 1810. He came to Iowa in 1837, and lived on the place where he died and is now buried for 52 years. He married Miss Jane Alexander in 1844. She and her two daughters, Laura Silvers and Mattie Workman, survive him. His son Frank died a few years ago in California.

Bethany church was organized in his house in 1854. Afterwards the church on his land by that name was built by him and his neighbors. He was a man of strong convictions and a kindly good man and neighbor, and his loss will be felt by all who knew him. Thus one by one of our old pioneers pass away and lay their bodies in this goodly land they loved so well while they lived. Peace to their ashes.
