FRANK PHILIPS

Frank Philips was born at Douds, November 8, 1892, and departed this life at his home in Chicago at 5 o'clock Monday morning, July 16, 1923, at the age of 30 years 8 months and 8 days. He was in the Chicago hospital after an illness of several months with a disease he contracted in the world war. His body was brought from Chicago to the home of his aunt, Mrs. V.P. Douds, where the funeral services were held Wednesday, July 18, at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. F.M. Garrett, pastor of the M.E. church.

He leaves to mourn their loss his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lemley of Chicago; two sisters and one brother, Mrs. William Lynn of Ottumwa, Mrs. Nelson Howarth of Chicago and William Philips of Ottumwa, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.

He was one of the first to enlist in the world war, being placed in Company M, 168th regiment of the Rainbow division. He was in the army two years, having fought in all the great battles. He was shell shocked and gassed and spent four months in a French hospital.

During his sickness he was patient, kind and hopeful, and everything that loving hands could do was done to relieve his suffering. - Contributed
