Obituary of Thomas Plowman
**Handwritten: 1926

Thomas Clark Plowman, son of Paul and Margaret Plowman, was born in Madison county, Ohio, July 15, 1843, and passed away at his home near Douds, Iowa, May 15, 1926, at the age of 82 years and 10 months.

He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Shaffer Nov. 29, 1865. This union was broken by the death of his devoted companion Oct. 1, 1924. He leaves to mourn his departure six children, five grandchildren, two brothers, three half brothers, two half sisters, neighbors and friends.

The children are: Emory of Keosauqua; Luther of Kilbourne; Harley of Birmingham; Mrs. Charles Clafin, Frank and Mrs. Clay Mathias of Douds. One daughter, Leona, died in infancy.

Although Mr. Plowman had been a great sufferer for several years he was always patient, kind and cheerful. The going of the father and mother in less than two years brings a deep sense of loss to those who knew them best. The sorrow would be beyond human endurance if it were not for the Comforter. For fifty-nine years they lived in the same commnnity(sp) ever ready to help in sickness and trouble, devoting their lives to their children friend and neighbors. Their characters were good examples of devotion to correct principles and right living.

Funeral services were held May 17 at 2 o'clock p.m. at the home south of Douds, conducted by the Rev. J.C. Austin, assisted by the Rev. W.J. Hamilton. A number of beautiful selections were rendered by the Douds quartet. The remains were laid to rest in Leando cemetery.
