Lorenzo Dow Spurgeon was born in Morgan county, Ohio more than eighty years ago. His earthly life closed at his home in Bonaparte, Iowa, October 4, 1899.

From Ohio Mr. Spurgeon removed to St. Louis, Mo., thence to Iowa, coming first to Louisa county and later to Lee county and finally to Bonaparte in 1866.

He was twice married. Five children were born to the first union, two of whom survive, a son, Samuel and a daughter, Mrs. Julia Berg, who reside near Farmington. Their mother died in 1876.

About sixteen years ago the second marriage was consummated and he is survived by the wife who faithfully attended him in his declining years.

The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church, Friday October 6, 1899, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. H. Scofield, and was attended by many relatives and friends. The interment was made in the Bonaparte cemetery.
