Obituary of Mrs. Eli Grubbs

Lora Jane Parker was born in Rush county, Indiana, July 22, 1836, and died at her home in Leando, Io., March 19, 1918, aged 81 years, 7 months and 28 days. She was married to Eli Grubbs in Greensburg, Indiana, August 8, 1857, so for a little over 60 years this couple have been permitted to share the joys and sorrows of life.

To this union were born 8 children, namely 7 sons and 1 daughter, of whom three sons preceded their mother in death. The family emigrated from Indiana to Mt. Sterling, Iowa, in 1881, and for about 28 years have been residents of Leando. She united with the Methodist church in Decatur county, Indiana, at the early age of 12 years and at her death was true in her faith to God and the church.

She has been an invalid and blind for nearly 18 years and was tenderly cared for by her devoted and loving husband, 4 sons, Henry, Simon, W.D. and R.A., with their families; 1 daughter Mrs. Rosa Scotten and her family, 1 brother, 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and many friends.

Funeral services were held at the Leando Methodist church, Thursday afternoon, March 21, by Rev. Wm. Heger, assisted by Rev. E.S. Hehner. Interment in the Le-Leando(sp) cemetery.
