Zane Dillon Hoops
**Handwritten: 1937

Zane Dillon Hoops, son of John and Frances Hoops, was born in Rehoboth, Ohio, July 1, 1875, and departed this life Monday, July 19, 1937, following a brief illness. He suffered a stroke of paralysis Wednesday noon after working in the harvest field during the morning. His age at the time of his death was 62 years and 18 days.

At the age of two years his mother passed away in Ohio and he and his sister Etta were brought to Iowa to live with his grandmother Strait. He lived the rest of his life in Van Buren county, where he took up farming as his life's occupation.

He was married to Miss Nettie Sullivan, April 24, 1899. To this union four daughters were born: Thelma, Berneta, Aldan and Myrtle. He gave his heart to God and joined the Pittsburg Methodist church about 25 years ago. He was called a good man by everyone who knew him. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a devoted companion to his grandson, Max, a true friend and a good neighbor. His cheery greeting and happy outlook on life will be cherished by all.

He is survived by his wife, Nettie; his four daughters, Mrs. Thelma Fieffer, Mrs. Gustav Breslauer, Mrs. Morris Rasmussen, all of Chicago, and Mrs. Harold Craig, Keosauqua; grandson, Max Breslauer, Chicago; a sister, Mrs. Etta Yarnell, Douds; four nephews and two nieces; and uncle, W.B. Strait, Keosauqua, and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Burnett Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. J.C. Austin. Interment was in the Pittsburg cemetery.
