Bert Randall, Veteran, Dies

Surviving Are Wife, Son, 2 Daughters; Military Funeral Held at Purdom Cemetery.

Bert A. Randall of Keosauqua, Spanish-American war veteran, died at the Ottumwa hospital in Ottumwa about 6:20 o'clock Saturday evening. He was 64 years old and had been ill on a (few) weeks.

He is survived by his wife, the former Harriet Thompson; a son, Ray Randall of Keosauqua; two daughters, Miss Grace Randall, a teacher at Grinnell, and Mrs. Robert Umphrey of Birmingham; one sister, Mrs. Blanche Perkins of Goodland, Kan.; two brothers, Rollen of Stronghurst, Ill., and Earl of Mt. Hamill; three granddaughers, Dorothy, Ruth and Janet Umphrey of Birmingham; and a sister-in-law, Miss Rose Thompson, who has lived at the Randall home 20 years.

Mr. Randall was born in Illinois but came with his parents to Iowa when a baby. He enlisted in Company K of the 51st Iowa regiment and served 14 months in the Philippines during the Spanish-American war.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Keosauqua at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon in charge of the Rev. C.H. Orf. Singers were Glenn Williams, Floyd Williams, O.C. Williams and Hovey Hootman, with Mrs. Esther Arthmann at organist. The bearers were Marius Foweler, Edd Strait, Foss Miller, Roy Beatty, Fred Rigby and Hershal Cox.

Military rites were held at Purdom cemetery by the American Legion and several Spanish-American war veterans, including ?.D. Morris of Stockport and George Martin and W.S. Lane of Bonaparte.
