Lila Peebler rites Wednesday

BATAVIA - Lila Williams Peebler, 89, Batavia, died Sunday at Ottumwa Regional Health Center

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Batavia United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harold Harryman officiating. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery near Douds. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Campbell Funeral Chapel in Batavia. A memorial has been established to Batavia United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Peebler was born Aug. 30, 1898 in Nebraska, the daughter of Daniel and Teresa McBeth Goehring. She moved to California in 1949 and later enrolled in a nursing program at Sacramento. She was a nurse in Sacramento and Chico, Calif., from 1950 to 1964, when she retired and moved to Iowa. She married Harry Williams Dec. 23, 1916. He died Jan. 24, 1946. She married Glen Peebler in 1965 at Rock Island, Ill. He survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Velma Booth of Batavia, Helen Knecht of Sacramento, Calif.; a son, Lloyd Williams of Libertyville; a stepson, Larry Peebler of Batavia; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Clifford Goehring of Fairfield.

Mrs. Peebler was a member of Mount Zion Methodist Church and the Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary.
