Amanda Virginia Parsons
Amanda Virginia Parsons, daughter of Jonathan H. and Sarah Parsons, was born near Libertyville, Jefferson county, Iowa, January 12, 1858, and passed away at St. Josephs hospital, Ottumwa, March 6, 1916, at the age of 62 years, 1 month and 23 days. Aunt Amanda, as she was called by all who knew her, made her home with her brother A.K. Parsons and spent the most of her time helping others.
She united with the M.P. church when quite young, later changing to the M.E. church when the family moved to Keosauqua in 1895, and at the time of her death was a member of of(err) the M.E. church of Lebanon. She ever remained a faithful member. She was taken bedfast in September, 1915, at the home near Douds-Leando, where she lay until December 6, when she was removed to Ottumwa and on February 21, was taken to St. Josephs hospital, where it was found that she had cancer of the stomach.
She is survived by one brother, A.K. Parsons of Douds-Leando, one sister, Mrs. Alice Archer of Bedford, Iowa, and many other relatives. The remains were taken to the home of her cousin E.A. Wilson, near Libertyville, where the funeral services were held March 8, 1916, conducted by Rev. James A. Wilson of Richland. Interment was in the Libertyville cemetery, where her parents are buried.
