David B. Wirt was born in Greenup county, Kentucky, May 25, 1835, and died at the home of his daughter Mrs. George Denning, near Leando, Iowa, April 9, 1913, aged 77 years, 10 months and 15 days. He, with his parents, came to Iowa in 1845 and located near Keosauqua. Later they moved to the farm west of Leando and from there o St. Louis, Mo. In early manhood he united with the Baptist church of that place. He enlisted in the civil war in 1861, Co. D, 3rd regiment, Mo. Volunteers. In 1864 he ws married to Miss Emma Barratt and in 1867 moved back to his farm near Leando, where he spent the greater portion of his life. To this union were born 9 children, 5 dying infancy. He leaves a wife, a sister at Beaumont, Texas; four children, Wm. B. of Fairfield; Charles F., Nellie E. Denning and Daisy L. Denniing of Leando, and three grandchildren. The funeral was held Saturday, April 12, burial being in the Leando cemetery.
