FALL FATAL TO FATHER LAST MAY 2**Handwritten: 1922
Fairfield, July 29.--Ellsworth Arbaugh, aged 20 years, of Birmingham is dead and his mother, Mrs. Sam W. Arbaugh is in the Jefferson County hospital in a serious condition as the result of a right-angle collision between their automobile and one driven by County Agent E.L. Moser, one mile north of Fairfield on College Road about 4:15 o'clock Friday afternoon.
Moser who was uninjured is not held to blame. It was shown he was not driving at excessive speed and the view of both drivers was obstructed by a corn field.
Young Mr. Arbaugh's father, Sam W. Arbaugh, died in the local hospital May 2 as the result of injuries received when he suffered a stroke of apoplexy and fell down the stairs in Gillaspie Brothers garage here. Their injuries were similar. Young Arbaugh's skull was fractured and he suffered internal injuries. He passed away in the hospital at 8:45 o'clock last evening. No arrangements have been made for the funeral. Mrs. Arbaugh's back is severaly(sp) injured and she is suffering from bruises.
The young man, who operated a garage at Birmingham, and his mother were on their way home from Iowa City where they had taken Miss Pansy Arbaugh, Mrs. Arbaugh's daughter. She is a surgical nurse in the University hospital. They were traveling in a southerly direction. Mr. Moser, who has been about the county for several days culling poultry was on his way to the Kann home, two mules northeast of Fairfield. He was traveling in an easterly route.
His car struck the middle of the Arbaugh machine, a Dodge roadster, it is said. The roadster turned over three times and was thrown thirty feet. His mother was found lying close to where their car had been when the collision occured. The Arbaugh auto finally righted itself and was found headed north. It was a mass of wreckage. Mr. Moser was not hurt. His car was stopped at once with but slight damage, it is said here today.

DR. AND MRS. L.A. SWISHER AT SCENE OF ACCIDENT
Dr. L.A. Swisher, pastor of the First Methodist church here, and Mrs. Swisher, 212 East Fourth street, who returned overland last evening from their vacation spent at various points in Iowa and at Chicago, came to the scene of the Arbaugh accident soon after it occured. The car here a Wapello county license tag and an "Ottumwa" name plate. These attracted the Swishers' attention immediately. Upon inquiry they found the machine had been owned here but had been transferred to the Arbaugh garage at Birmingham. Dr. Swisher says the accident took place at a county road crossing where the high corn obstructed the view.
