**Handwritten: Keo. Rep. 24 April 1890

DIED: Stephen A. Harris was born in Harrisburg township, Van Buren county, Io., Dec. 28, 1860 and died at Bentonsport, April 17, 1890. When but nine years of age his parents moved to Newton Co. Mo. After remaining there for five years, they returned to Van Buren county, where with the exception of a few months Stephen has since resided.

On the 9th day of February 1888 he was joined in marriage to Miss Mary L. Rehkopf of Bentonsport, who after a little more than two years of wedded life must accept, the lonely lot of a widow. In 1882, Mr. Harris became a member of the Des Moines Valley Lodge No. 238 I.O.O.F.

For many months it had been evident that the destroyer had marked him as a victim. Being less than 30 years of age he clung tenaciously to life but slowly and surely did his frail body yield to the conqueror. As he neared the margin of the river he became much concerned about the future. He sought pardon, made a profession of christian faith and received the sacrament of baptism on his death bed. His funeral was held at the M.E. church on Friday. The burial services of the Odd Fellows were observed. His devoted wife and little daughter Bessie, have the sympathy of a large circle of friends.
