Mrs. Nancy Root.

From the Washington Republican, Washington, Kan.:
- Nancy M. Burns was born in Pennsylvania, April 4, 1829. Was married to Lysander Root in Vernon township, Van Buren county, Iowa, Sept. 30, 1852. She died Oct. 18, 1899, in Washington, Kansas. She leaves a husband and three children, two sons and a daughter and an adopted son, to mourn their loss.

Mrs. Root had been a Christian from childhood. In her earlier years she belonged to the Congregational church but when she came to this place she united with the M.E. church.

Mrs. Root was such a pure, noble, God-loving woman that she had an ennobling influence upon every one who knew her. She was ever ready to aid the poor and care for (an) orphan. Even in her last days of intense suffering she forgot self in (the) interest of those about her. She ??? murmured. Among the last words she said "I am ready to go and see Him as he is." The text was, "Blessed are the pure in heart for the shall see God." The funeral was from the home Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. Taylor. A large number of sympathizing friends were present to pay the last respects to the dead and lend sympathy to the bereaved family.
