KEOSAUQUA - James C. "Duff" Gordon, 81, retired farmer of rural Keosauqua, died Thursday evening at the Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua. He had been in failing health and had entered the hospital Wednesday.
Mr. Gordon was born at Fairfield November 3, 1891, the son of James and Cora Vanatta Gordon. In 1921 he married Liza Bartholomew at Fairfield. Mrs. Gordon survives him.
He was a veteran of World War I and a charter member of the American Legion post at Bonaparte.
Also surviving are a son, Jack, of Fort Madison; five grandchildren; a brother, Wilson of Lapel, Ind.; three sisters, Mrs. Lidia Stancell of Fairfield, Mrs. Gail Rankin of Mt. Pleasant, and Mrs. Vanatta Grimes of Truro. Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by a son and a sister.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, 2 p.m. at the Center Chapel United Methodist Church south of Keosauqua. Interment will be at the Center Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Pedrick Funeral Home at Keosauqua.
