In the fall of 1838 he came to Van Buren Co., Iowa, and lived near Bonaparte til 1840, when he purchased the farm afterward owned by Jacob Fritzinger. By his second wife he had two children, Edwin E., and Lottie M. Seventeen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren also were given to him.

In youth he was instructed in the principles of religion. He believed in God and in the immortal life, and in his last sickness prayed: “Lord take me.”

Funeral services were conducted at the residence Saturday, Jan. 27, 1900, by Rev. W. H. Scofield, after which the interment was made at the Vale cemetery.
