Obituary of Fred. Greef.

Fred Greef, of Pittsburg, Kansas, a former resident of the county and cashier of the Julius Greef private bank of Bentonsport for years, died at his home one day last week and was buried there on Sunday.

Fred. was the son of H.F. Greef, senior partner of the old firm of Greef Bros. in the mercantile business which was established way back in the fifties and continued up to a few years ago when they closed out, and Julius, the junior partner, established a private bank of which Fred. was in control during its entire existence which was up to a little over a year ago, when times got so dull in Bentonsport that Julius and Fred. concluded to wind up the business and follow Fred's mother, two brothers and a sister to their present home. Mr. Julius Greef has since lost his wife. Now Fred. has gone, and his mother, brother, sister and his oldest child, a boy, ate too sick to come here to attend the funeral, consequently he was buried at Pittsburg.

Fred. was one of the rising young men of the country. He was honest, upright and straight-forward in all his dealings and was counted as one of our best business men. He will be greatly missed by the citizens where he resided, and Bentonsport his old home will be in mourning.

He was married about 10 years ago to Miss Hattie Brown, daughter of N.G. Brown, who is left with four children to mourn his loss.

His many friends in this community feel the loss deeply. On every side you hear expressions of regret, and while the wife and children mourn the loss of a departed husband and father, they have the consolation of knowing they have the sympathy of this entire community.

Fred. was right in the prime of his life, and no one but his own family will miss him more than his Uncle Julius, who has accumulated quite a fortune and expected him to look after it and see that every dollar was kept invested financially.
--T.P. HENRY.
