Angel of Death Calls Little Erwin Ruble Purdy of Bentonsport In Poor Health of Late
Erwin Ruble Purdy was born at Bentonsport, March 9, 1908, and died at the same place Sept. 26, 1910, at the age of 2 years, 6 months and 15 days.
The most of his bright young life was spent at Keokuk, where his parents have made their home.
Last April Little Erwin had whooping cough from which he had not recovered when he suffered an attack of measles, which was closely followed by bronchial pneumonia. Although already weakened in vitality, the little one made a brave fight for life, lasting over a period of sixteen weeks, during which time he bore his sufferings with great patience.
He was a member of the Cradle Roll Department of Trinity M.E. Sunday School, Keokuk, Iowa, but he had, as yet, no need of Christian instruction, for his little soul was as pure as when it left its Creator.
Besides his bereaved young parents, Erwin is survived by his grand-parents, C.T. Ruble and wife of Bentonsport, and W.J. Purdy and wife of Keokuk, three great-grandmothers, Mrs. Nancy Downing of Bentonsport, Mrs. Elizabeth Howell and Mrs. Emma Purdy, both of Keokuk; four uncles, three aunts and a large number of other relatives. While these will mourn the absence of their little loved one for a few short years, it is in that better land where sorrowful parting will be unknown.
Funeral services were conducted from the home of Mrs. Nancy Downing at 1;30 p.m., Wednesday Sept. 27, Rev. J.H. Taylor in charge; and the remains of "Baby Purdy," in their little white casket, were laid to rest in the Bentonsport cemetery.
