HENRY.
Thomas P. Henry was born in Van Buren County, Iowa, July 21, 1841, and departed this life at his home in Bonaparte, Iowa, January 23, 1900, having attained the age of 58 years, 6 months and 2 days. He has been in poor health for the past several years, being sorely afflicted with rheumatism, but has been able most of the time to be about among his many friends. During the past ten days his life was sustained by a delicated thread and he suffered intensely, with a constant desire to be at rest.
In April, 1861, Mr. Henry enlisted in Company F, Second Iowa Infantry, at Keosauqua, and served his country gallantly until the close of the dread Civil War, being discharged July 21, 1865. He was married February 16, 1870 to Jennie Bennett, who with their only son, Lemuel H., of Sioux City, remain to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father.
Deceased lived from 1865 to 1879 in Vernon, when he moved to his farm on Vernon Prairie, residing there until 1896 when he moved to Burlington. After living there several months he removed to Bonaparte, his last place of residence.
The funeral services, under the auspices of Elias M. Ware Post, G.A.R., occurred from his late home Thursday, January 25, 1900, conducted by Rev. C.W. Wilson, of Lovilia, Iowa. After the services, in accordance with the request of the deceased, the remains will be taken to Davenport for cremation, after which the ashes will be deposited in the Bonaparte cemetery.
