ALLEN G. LIPPENCOTT.
Allen G. Lippencott was born in Richland county, Ohio, March 19, 1833, and died in Keosauqua, Iowa, Tuesday, February 10, 1903, aged 69 years, 10 months and 21 days. In 1839 he came with his parents to Van Buren county, Iowa, where they settled on a farm in Henry township, which was his home until he moved to Keosauqua in 1892 where he resided the rest of his life.
On January 29, 1857, Mr. Lippencott was married to Miss Sarah A. Davis, who died in Keosauqua about fifteen months ago. To them two children were born, May and Sallie, the last named dying, while attending school in Keosauqua, in January 1889. May married W.C. Cheney, their residence being in Keosauqua, and it was at their home the father died. Mr. Lippencott had been in declining health since last spring with disease of the bladder which, we understand, was the cause of his death.
He was a man of considerable wealth and was public spirited and did much for the upbuilding of Keosauqua. He was held in high esteem by the people of the county and was twice elected as county supervisor. He will be greatly missed not only in his home town but in the entire county. Politically he was a democrat. About twelve years ago he united with the Congregational church in Keosauqua and was a faithful member until the end. His death, like that of the late Isaac Boyd, who was his intimate friend for sixty years, takes away another pioneer of Van Buren county.
The funeral was held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Cheney at half past one o'clock, Wednesday, February 11, the services being in charge of his pastor Rev. C.E. Perkins, after which the remains were interred in the Fellows cemetery near town by the side of his wife and daughter. He was a member of the Odd Fellows' lodge of this place, and members of that order were pall bearers at the funeral, the honorary pall bearers being Christy Wright, J.W. Burns, S.D. Fellows, W.T. Holbert, D.J. Searight, J.A. Fowler, and the active pall bearers C.W. Casney, Fred H. Smith, Fred H. Roberts, C.E. Jamison, Walter Beer and Ralph Hogue.
