Katie A. Leggett.

Katie A. Leggett daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Leggett, was born May 29, 1877 and fell asleep in Jesus at the dawn of day Saturday, July 30, 1910. Silently the Angel of Death entered the home claiming "Katie" the choicest jewel in the circlet of home treasures, leaving universal sorrow.

Katie's was a winning nature, her affliction only strengthening the bond of love between her loved ones, her friends, her church and Sabbath school. She came to Vernon in 1895 and has been a loyal, earnest worker in the Master's vineyard, a comfort and support to her aged parents; to everyone a friend and to the Order of Rebekah a co-worker, loyal and ever true to her duty in any capacity and under whose auspices she was laid away, being a charter member and the first to answer the summons.

In a letter to her brother, Brose, at Galesburg, a few weeks ago, she spoke of her approaching death and expressed a desire to go and be at rest.

The funeral was held from the Vernon M.E. church where she had so often worshipped and where a class of little tots, boys and girls, will miss her kindly words and who in a beautiful tribute, as they looked upon her face, placed upon her casget(sp) each a carnation.

Her pastor, Rev. Druce, eulogized the beautiful life as she lived among her friends and of the noble work in the church. The casket was covered with beautiful floral tributes, the Vernon Sabbath school, a floral harp; her class, a bouquet of white carnations; the Rebekahs, carnations; a beautiful pillow and roses, Mrs. Dena Lane, Minnie Fulton and other friends.

She united with the M.E. church under the pastorate of Rev. C.W. Wilson at the age of 13 and her whole life has been devoted to the will of God, and in the full enjoyment of his wonderful love she fell asleep. Surviving are her aged parents and three brothers, Claude and Ambrose, of Galesburg, Ill., Earl, of Chug Water, Wyo., he being unable to reach here. Interment was in Vernon cemetery beside a sister who also was taken at the dawn of womanhood.
