Rebecca McIntosh was born Feb. 14th, 1823, in Barber Co., West Virginia. She was married to Chapin Glasscock, Dec. 31, 1844. To this union were born nine children, six of whom are still living. Mary lives in California, Jennie in Warren Co., Iowa, and Clay in Des Moines, Iowa. Eugene, Gideon and Ella live in this county. The family moved to Iowa in 1854 and settled in Vernon, and this has been the family home ever since. Mrs. Glasscock united with the M.E. church 54 years ago. Her attendance on the means of grace was regular until the condition of her health became such as she could not attend the house of God. She died March 11, 1901, at the home of her daughter Ella, aged 78 years and 25 days. This mother left a great legacy to her children, a christian character, and an example of trust in her God. Her fifty-four years of Christian living has had its influence for good in the community in which she lived. The funeral took place from the Vernon M.E. church Wednesday, March 13, conducted by the pastor W.R. Rolingson.
