Mrs. Sarah Marriott.
Died, at her home in Vernon, Van Buren county, Iowa, May 25, 1901, Mrs. Sarah Marriott, after a very brief illness, aged 83 years and 13 days. An exceeding large number of old friends and neighbors from various parts of the county, gathered to pay their last respects to the dead, who was known and loved by all the old settlers of Van Buren. The services which were held in the M.E. church of Vernon, where conducted by Eld. Clark Bateman, pastor of the Christian church in Keosauqua. Sarah Marriott was born in Philadelphia, Penn, May 12, 1818. When she was 12 years of age she moved from Pennsylvania to Hamilton county, Ohio, and in 1836 was united in marriage with Wm. Marriott. In company with her husband she moved to Van Buren county in 1840, where she ever afterwards resided. She was the mother of 8 children, 7 sons and 1 daughter. The husband and one son died her in Vernon, another son having died in infancy in Ohio. There are thus left to mourn the death of the mother, one daughter, Emeline McCrary, and 5 sons: John S., William Iowa, James L., George C. and Edwin E. Mrs. Marriott united with the church in her youth and learned to serve Him by serving her fellow-beings, thus winning the love and respect of all. She departed this life to be with God and her husband, May 25, 1901.
