Obituary of Sarah L. Mitchell
Sarah Louise, daughter of Thomas and Sarah Gould, was born in Waldom, Berkshire, England, December 23, 1866, and died at her home in Farmington township, Iowa, December 31, 1918, aged 52 years and 8 days. She united in marriage with Thomas C. Mitchell January 17th, 1888, in Parish of Winchelsea, County Sussex, England. After the wedding she embarked with her husband to the United States, locating in Iowa and making this her home until the end. Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell reared a family of three children, viz: James Claise (deceased since 1908), Donald R., just returned from the colors, and Mrs. Mabel E. Cartnell. She is also survived by her husband. one granddaughter, her mother and several brothers and sisters. Mrs. Mitchell was one of the three female survivors from the steamship which was lost in the English Channel November 28th, 1887. She was a kind mother and good neighbor. Funeral services conducted in Story Chapel by Rev. G. H. Smith with interment in Thompson cemetery.
