LAST SAD RITES

Dr. S.C. Franks Laid to Rest Last Friday Under Auspices of Masonic Fraternity

The death of Dr. S.C. Franks, last Thursday, removed from out midst a prominent business man, a faithful lodge man and an honorable citizen. He has been in business here with is son C.P. Franks for the past seventeen years, and, until his late, illness prevented, he has constantly been at his post of duty. Nowhere will he be missed more than at Mt. Moriah Lodge, A.F. & A.M, where for many years, he has been secretary, serving with a faithfulness that is seldom equaled in any lodge.

Dr. Solomon C. Franks was the son of Peter and Julia Fletcher Franks and was born near Maysville, Ohio, April 24, 1837. He was the youngest, but one, of a family of nine children; two brothers older than he survive him.

He graduated in medicine from Starling College, Columbus, Ohio, at the age of twenty-three and practiced his profession for forty years.

He was united in marriage to Miss Minerva Nixon in 1871. To this union were born six children, Mrs. Hattie Rockey, of Suguache, Colo., Mrs. Alta McCutcheon, of Auburn, Wash., Wm. N. Franks, of Atlantic, Iowa, Mrs. Anna McCracken, of Bonaparte, Iowa, Clarence P. Franks, of Farmington, Iowa, and Mrs. Jennie F. Sawyers, of Hannibal, Mo., all of whom, with his devoted wife, twenty-three grand-childrn(sp), and one great-grand-child, survive him, this being the first break in the family.

He united with the Methodist church at the age of thirty-four.

He moved to Bentonsport, Iowa in 1879, and to Farmington in 1895, where he has since made his home.

He passed away Sept. 5, 1912, after an illness of five weeks, at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 12 days.

His funeral was held from the residence on South Third Street, Friday, Sept. 6, at 3:00 p.m. the Rev. D.W. Phillips officiating. He was laid to rest by Mt. Moriah Lodge, of which he was an honored member, they using their impressive ritualistic ceremony of the grave.
