BERTHA MAY SHEPHERD.
Bertha May Shepherd was born in Davis county, Iowa, July 26, 1864, and passed away at College View, Nebraska, May 22, 1912, aged 47 years, 9 months and 26 days. At the age of 15 she united with the Seventh Day Adventist church and remained a firm believer in that faith.
Most of her life was spent in her home near Bentonsport, Iowa. Being of a loving, cheerful disposition, much of her time was spent in ministering to others. Since the loss of her mother, two years ago, she had been in declining health. Thinking a change of climate would benefit her she left her home for College View, Nebraska, at which place she passed away, being reconciled and happy at the thought of being at rest and reunited with her loved ones, where as she espressed it, "They would partake of the fruit of the tree of life."
Of her immediate family their(sp) remain but three: Elmer N., who resides in St. Thomas, West Indies; Mrs. I.N. Bales, Milwaukee, Oregon, and Miss Carrie B. Shepherd, College View, Nebraska. These, with a large number of relatives and friends, mourn her departure. But they sorrow not as those who have that assurance that "all is well with her."
The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. C.A. Field, at Bentonsport, May 24, 1912, and the remains placed at rest in the cemetery at that place.
"A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is still;
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled".[Additional from Entler Scrapbook obit:]
