Early Day Pittsburg Business Man Buried Today at Topeka.A.H. Greef, 72, of Kansas City, early day Pittsburg business man, died at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the Security Benefit Association hospital, Topeka, according to word received by his brother, Otto Greef, 413 1/2 North Broadway. The death resulted from complications which followed an operation.
Born Oct. 14, 1863 in Bentonsport, Ia., Mr. Greef came to Pittsburg in 1889. He secured a postion as day clerk at the Hotel Stillwell but later opened the first steam laundry here in the hotel building. A number of years later he became associated with R.E. Carlton in the real estate business. He was one of the promoters in the erection of the Commerce building. Mr. Greef was a charter member of the Pittsburg Elks Lodge.
Mr. Greef and his family moved to Kansas City 28 years ago. There he continued in the real estate business and associated with D.J. D?an and A.J. Dean, early day owners of the Hotel Stillwell.
Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Josephine Greef; two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence M. Walker of Pittsburg, wife of Police Judge L.M. Walker; and Mrs. Mary Greef Harris, nationally known tennis star; two brothers, Otto Greef of Pittsburg and Charles Greef of Eldora, Ia.; a niece Mrs. Robert P. Pile of Pittsburg, and a nephew, Fred Greef of Pittsburg.
Mrs. Walker was at her father's beside. Judge Walker drove to Indianapolis yesterday to meet Mrs. Harris, who returned from the East after canceling a tennis match.
Funeral services were held at 4 o'clock this afternoon at the Wall & Diffenderfer Funeral Home. Burial was in Topeka.
