Mrs. Hannah Woods.
Mrs. Hannah Woods died at her home west of Farmington, Monday Jan. 24th, as the result of paralysis, and by her death Van Buren county loses probably its oldest white settler. For eighty years she had been a resident of the county, and at the Old Settlers reunion, held at Keosauqua two years ago, she was generally accorded the honor of being the oldest white settler of the the county then living.
Hannah Wilson was born in White county, Ill., May 15, 1833. She came to Van Buren county, Iowa, with her parents in 1836 and has lived ever since that time in Farmington township. In 1858 she was married to Zachariah Woods, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Woods is survived by three children: Robert of Farmington, George and Emma on the home farm west of Farmington.
The deceased was always a strong healthy woman up to Thursday, Jan. 20th, when she suffered a stroke of paralysis. She was rendered unconscious and remained in that condition until death claimed her at 6:30 o'clock Monday evening, Jan. 24.
Mrs. Woods was a woman of strong character and respected and loved by all who knew her. She was of sturdy pioneer stock, the kind that made the Iowa prairies the garden spot of the world. And we of the present day owe much to her and the many others who blazed the way of our prosperity.
Funeral services were held at Story Chapel Friday, Jan. 28th at 1:30 o'clock. Interment in the Thompson cemetery.
