Louis J. Schmidt.

Louis J. Schmidt was born near Bonaparte, Iowa, September 27, 1866. Most of his life was spent on the "old home farm," with his parents, John Peter and Mary Anne Schmidt. At the age of fourteen he was converted and joined the M.E. Church; later, with his parents, under the sriptural teachings of Elder L. McCoy, he joined the Seventh Day Adventist church of Bonaparte, Iowa, of which he remained a devoted member until he fell asleep in Jesus, September 21, 1914, at 2 o'clock, A.M.

He was two years a student in Battle Creek College, Battle Creek, Mich., and two years in Union College, College View, Neb. May 24, 1905, he was united in marriage to Miss Ruth Breeden. This union was blessed with two children, Irene and Wallace A.

"Louie" as he was affectionately known, made many friends in each community where he lived. He was ever generous and noble, unselfish and quick to help in time of need, sympathetic and encouraging. He possessed such sterling qualities of character, purity and virtue, honesty and integrity as few possess. Mr. Schmidt was a man of progress. His ideas of farming were years in advance of his times; though he was modest in expressing his opinions except to his close friends.

He leaves to mourn their irreparable loss, a wife and two children, of Cheyenne Wells, Colo., his aged mother and one sister, Mrs. Mary Moore, both of Spring Valley, Minn., three nephews, two nieces and a host of other relatives and friends. We sorrow but not as those who have no hope.

Funeral services were conducted from the house by Elder C.R. Kite, of Boulder, Colo., and we laid our loved one in the Cheyenne Wells cemetery to await the call of the life giver.
