Thomas P. Henry.

Thomas P. Henry, one of the pioneers of Van Buren county, died at his home in Bonaparte, January 23, 1900, in his 59th year. From the meager data at hand at this date we are able to give only this brief sketch of the deceased: Thomas P. Henry was born in Van Buren county, Iowa, July 21, 1841. In 1861 he enlisted at Keosauqua in Co. F., 2nd Iowa Infantry, serving with credit as a soldier until the end of the war when with his regiment he was discharged, July 21, 1865. February 16, 1870, he was married to Miss Jennie Bennett. Lemuel H. Henry is their son, who with the aged mother of the deceased, Mrs. Sylvester Henry, attended his last illness. His brothers and sisters living are: Volney Henry, of Bentonsport; S.F. Henry, of Bonaparte; Emily Phillips, of Ottumwa; Amelia Kays, of Evanston, Ill., and Susan Murphy, of Vernon. Funeral services conducted by the G.A.R.’s and Rev. C.W. Wilson, formerly of Vernon, now of Lovilia, Iowa, will be held today (Jan. 25) in the afternoon from the family home, and the body will be taken to the crematory at Davenport by special request of the decased.[sic] Quite a number of the G.A.R.’s of this place are attending the funeral today.
