Obituary of Elmer Myers.

Elmer Myers, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Myers, was born in Wapello county, August 11th, 1882, and departed this life January 6th, 1913, at 6:30 o'clock in the afternoon. He leaves to mourn their loss a loving wife and little daughter, the latter only five weeks old, a father, mother, two sisters, two brothers, and two grandmothers, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

The first fourteen years of his life were spent on a farm in Wapello county, and in 1896 he moved with his folks to Davis county and lived there until about eight years ago. Then coming to Keosauqua he has since made his home here. On December 12th, 1909, he was married to Bertha J. Day, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Day of this place. To this union was born one daughter, Nellie Josephine, December 2nd, 1912.

After Mrs. Myers recovered from her sickness Mr. Myers, the week before Christmas, left home on his usual route expecting to be back home by Sunday, but on Friday morning while feeding his team one of the horses kicked him violently in the abdomen. The force of the blow would probably have been fatal at once but it was partly broken by the hay Mr. Myers was carrying and he lingered for two weeks. Everything that loving hearts and skill could suggest was done to alleviate his sufferings and at times his friends hoped for a complete recovery, which hopes however were destined to be disappointed. A day or two after the accident friends brought him carefully to his home where he lay until the end came with great suddenness last Monday afternoon, January 6th.

During his most recent illness his condition was such that but few were allowed to see him but all who did so, speak of his patience under his great sufferings. The funeral services were conducted at his home by Rev. H.J. Wilkins of the Congregational church, assisted by Rev. C.V. Allison of the Christian church, the interment being in the Purdom cemetery.

**I research the DAY lineage.**
