Patience Taylor.

Patience Taylor was born Dec. 12, 1816 and died Feb. 24, 1899, being 83 years, 2 months and 12 days old. Aunt Patience was married to Samuel Taylor, October 6, 1835, he preceding her to the home beyond Sept. 26, 1875. Samuel Taylor was for several years an elder in the Christian church at this place, and was identified in its struggles and triumphs in an early day. He was a co-worker with the McCrarys, Roberts, Thompson, Peterson, and Mangum, who at that time were the support of the cause. The subject of this sketch became a christian at a very tender age, perhaps at 13, and lived a consistent christian ‘til the time of death. To the above union were born nine children, five boys and four girls. Three of the four girls, Hannah, Kate and Hattie, are dead, and Mary E. Mangum lives in Omaha. The boys are J.F. of Oklahoma, C. W. and S.A. of the state of Washington, J.E. of Eldon, and William, of this place, with whom the mother made her home and who with his family has tenderly cared for her. For a number of years she had been a constant sufferer, and many times had been drawn near the exit of life only to battle and then rally, but at 4 o’clock on Monday, Feb. 24, she was permitted to step over into that rest promised the christian. We truly say of her: “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.” Funeral services conducted by Elder G. A. Hendrickson were held at the home of her son Saturday afternoon, and the remains laid to rest in the Purdom cemetery.
