HENRY B. EDMONSON.

Henry Bascom Edmonson was born in Scott county, Ky., Nov. 26, 1842, and came with his parents the following year to Van Buren county, where he resided continuously until his death, which occurred Saturday, Sept. 17, 1910, at the age of 67 years, 9 months, and 22 days.

In 1862, Mr. Edmonson enlisted as a member of Co. I, 19th Iowa Infantry and spent three years in defense of the Stars and Strips(sp), receiving wounds in battle, from which he never entirely recovered, although he enjoyed many years of comparatively good health.

He was married Jan. 2, 1868, to Miss Sarah L. Woods and brought his bride to his home on the farm on which they lived happily for more than 42 years.

He was honest and just in his dealings with others, generous to all worthy causes, and respected by all who knew him. He always took an active interest in civic affairs and although not a politician, served for six years as county supervisor. He was a lover of his home and delighted in extending its hospitalites to his many friends.

He was a member of Shriver Post No 177, G.A.R., of Vernon, and took great pleasure in meeting with his comrades, having, several times attended the National Encampment. He was especially interested in the annual reunions of his regiment and in the Co. I picnics, which, a few years ago became an annual event.

Although never exactly robust, Mr. Edmonson was never ill until about 18 months ago when he met with an accident, since which time his health has been failing. For the past year he was, most of the time, in a precarious condition, during which time he received the constant, tender, and watchful care of his devoted wife, and the niece, who has filled the place as a loving and dutiful daughter.

Besides his wife and the niece, Miss Fannie Glascock, who has brightened the home since childhood, the deceased is survived by two sisters, Anna F. Freeman and Irene Campbell, both of California; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services, which were largely attended, were conducted from the home at 2 p.m, Wednesday, Sept. 21, by Rev. J.H. Taylor pastor of the M.E. church. The pall bearers, selected from Co I, were as follows: Frank Johnston of Keosauqua, George Klise of Stockport, Jesse Meredith, Jerome Long, Martin Hornbaker and Henry Easling of Bonaparte. Shriver Post was present and performed the ritualistic burial service, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Bentonsport cemetery.
