MISS KATIE LEGGETT.

In the early morning of July 30, 1910, death entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Leggett of Vernon and called away their only daughter Miss Katie and left the aged couple disconsolate and the home desolate. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon, the services being held in the Vernon M.E. church of which congregational deceased was a member, Rev. Druce, the pastor officiating. The Rebakah Lodge of Bentonsport, of which organization Miss Katie was a member, took charge of the funeral, furnished the pall bearers, and the lodge, with members from other towns, acted as escort from the home to the grave in the cemetery.

Katie Leggett was born at Mt. Sterlilng, Iowa, May 30, 1877, and was thirty-three years and two months old when the call came. When thirteen years old, she was converted under the ministry of Rev. C.W. Wilson, pastor in charge of the M.E. church at Mt. Sterling, and became a member of that denomination of which she was a faithful working servant.

In 1895, she with her father's family came to Vernon to reside, and for fifteen years that town has been her home. She with other members of her family united with the M.E. church. While living in Mt. Sterling, she fell from the mow of her father's stable and injured her spine. The injury was not deemed of much import at the time, but eventually proved to be a very severe and mortal one. It made her a cripple and invalid for the last decade of her life, and was the cause of her demise. Notwithstanding her crippled and invalided condition, she was ever helpful and consoling to her home. A few days before the end came her brother Claud with his wife and one daughter, who reside at Galesburg, Illinois, reponded to a call to come.

Her brother Earl, who is in Wyoming, could not come. During her last days she was surrounded by fond and loving parents, dearly loved brothesr(sp) and sisters, and every want supplied, and was nursed and cared for by loving friends and neighbors.
